Camping on the French Riviera by the sea: experience the Riviera in a different way with Montana Parc

Located between the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of the Provençal hinterland, the French Riviera stretches from Menton to Saint-Tropez and enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year. This coastline, renowned for its beaches, coves, and seaside resorts, is one of the most sought-after destinations for a seaside camping holiday on the French Riviera.

With two campsites on the French Riviera, in the heart of the Esterel and in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, Montana Parc offers a privileged starting point for discovering the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean.

Why the French Riviera

Why stay at a campsite on the French Riviera for a seaside holiday?

Staying at a campsite on the French Riviera allows you to enjoy an exceptional coastline and a wide variety of activities. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region offers numerous opportunities for swimming and water sports, as well as hiking along the coast in the Esterel Massif, which boasts nearly 900 km of marked trails between the sea and the red rocks.

The famous Estérel coastal path, stretching approximately 30 km between Saint-Aygulf and Théoule-sur-Mer, offers the chance to discover secluded coves and spectacular panoramas of the Mediterranean. A few kilometers away, the hilltop villages of Gassin and Ramatuelle, often listed among the most beautiful villages in France, also offer an immersion in Provençal heritage, with views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Choosing your campsite

Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, Gulf of Saint-Tropez: choosing your campsite

To fully enjoy a seaside camping holiday on the French Riviera, the Var department is one of the most sought-after areas. Located between the Esterel massif to the north and the Saint-Tropez peninsula to the south, this region offers approximately 80 km of Mediterranean coastline.

The towns of Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël, which welcome more than a million visitors each summer, constitute one of the main access points to the sea. Together, they provide access to nearly 40 km of beaches, between the Estérel coastline and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, alternating between sandy beaches, rocky coves and Mediterranean ports.

Montana Parc campsites also offer easy access to the beaches of the Var coastline and the coves of the Esterel Massif. Cannes is 45 minutes away, Nice 1 hour, and Monaco 1 hour 30 minutes from both locations. The center of Saint-Tropez is 10 minutes from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Beaches accessible from Montana Parc

Around Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël, the coastline alternates between large family beaches and wilder coves.

Agay beach, located at the foot of the Estérel massif, offers a wide, sheltered bay ideal for swimming and water sports.

The Estérel ridge also provides access to several rocky coves bordered by the characteristic red rocks of the massif.

Further south, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez boasts approximately 35 km of beaches, including some of the most famous on the French Riviera.

Pampelonne beach, in Ramatuelle, stretches for almost 4 km of fine sand.

The beaches of Escalet and Gigaro, on the other hand, offer a more natural setting, between coves and turquoise waters.

These beaches are accessible in less than 15 minutes from the Golfe de Saint-Tropez campsite.

What is the best time for a camping holiday on the French Riviera?

The French Riviera enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year and sea temperatures reaching 25 to 28°C in July and August. However, peak season isn't necessarily the most comfortable time to stay. June and September are ideal: temperatures between 25 and 30°C, sea temperatures of 23-25°C, beaches accessible without the summer crowds, and significantly lower accommodation prices. This is also when on-site activities—water park, entertainment, sports—are in full swing without the queues of July and August. July and August remain the busiest period, especially for families with school-aged children. The two Montana Parc campsites offer a full entertainment program during this time, with up to eight activity sessions per day. Montana Parc campsites are open from April to October, making spring or autumn holidays also possible, in a quieter natural environment and with still very pleasant weather conditions on the Var coast.

Booking a campsite on the French Riviera during peak season

The Var coastline is one of the most popular areas in France during the summer. For July and August, holiday rentals by the sea in 4 and 5-star campsites on the French Riviera are fully booked several months in advance. Planning ahead is essential.

Summer bookings open at the end of the previous year on montanaparc.com. To guarantee your dates and type of accommodation – Leisure bungalow, chalets, Comfort cottage or Premium Villa – it is advisable to book before March for the high season.
